Research Grants
To-date I have attained a total research income of $2.2 M as the Lead Chief Investigator; eighty per centage of the income is from Australian Research Council (ARC); my total research income is over $10.2 M. Below is a list of my grants.
RESEARCH IMPACT BY PUBLICATIONS
My research interests and past projects involve (i) the development of new polymer (mainly epoxy and elastomer)
composites with specific functionalities through processing and (ii) the structure–property relations and fracture
mechanisms of polymer composites. My research on these topics has resulted in over 160 refereed journal papers;
of these publications, I am the corresponding authors for 92 papers and the 1st authors for 17, and the remaining
papers were produced through collaboration. I have achieved the following citation metrics from Google Scholar. My
H-index is 63 at Google Scholar, 57 at Scopus and 54 at Web of Science.
These journal papers have earned me an M-index of 3.0, surpassing the world standard M-index ≈ 2.0 to be qualified
as an outstanding scientist (M-index ≈ 1 refers to a successful scientist, metrics detailed at PNAS, 2005, 102, 16569).
My Web of Science Category Normalized Citation Impact is 2.03 as of June 2022, in comparison with the Global
Baseline 0.97.
My research belongs to applied science and sits in the field of functional composites and polymer processing.
According to the statistic from Web of Science, there are 25 journals classified in the field of Materials Science,
Composites; please see details at Incites – Web of Science. Typical journals include Composites Science and
Technology (Impact factor 8.53), Composites Part A-Applied Science and Manufacturing (7.66), Plastics Rubber and
Composites (2.02), and Polymers & Polymer Composites (2.0). An average Impact Factor of 3.25 is found for all these
journals.
My papers have been published in a lot of high impact journals. For example, I have one publication in Progress in
Polymer Science (Impact Factor 24.50), one in Applied Physics Reviews (19.16), four in Advanced Functional Materials
(18.81), one in ACS NANO (15.88), two in Chemical Engineering Journal (13.27), four in Journal of Materials
Chemistry A (12.73), three in Chemistry of Materials (9.81), eight in ACS Applied Ma
Editorial Boards and Peer Reviewing
I am an editor for Polymers for Advanced Technologies.
I am on the Editorial Board for three journals: Functional Composite Materials, Smart Materials in Manufacturing
and Journal of Research Update in Polymer Science.
Since joining UniSA at the end of 2007, I have received over 500 invitations as reviewer. I am a regular reviewer for
more than 12 prestigious journals such as Advanced Functional Materials, Chemistry of Materials, Nanoscale, Journal
of Materials Chemistry A, Carbon, Macromolecules, Macromolecular rapid communications, Polymer,
Nanotechnology, RSC Advances, and Composites Science and Technology. I occasionally review submissions for
Nature, Science, Nature Materials, Nature communications, etc.
As an ARC grant assessor, I each year complete assessment for 6–8 DP proposals, 5–7 Linkage proposals and 2–4
Fellowship proposals.
